PE

Purpose of Study

A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Aims

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

To develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.

The PE Curriculum at Cuddington

Cuddington Community Primary School will “Bring out the Best” in our pupils by providing a language rich and diverse experience both within and beyond the classroom. Our flexible approach enables everyone to thrive personally and academically, overcome challenges and prepare them for lifelong learning.

This is reflected in our curriculum approach to learning Physical Education and Sports, using the aims set out in Development Matters (2021) and the National Curriculum (2014) as frameworks for how we map content, ensure progression in knowledge and sequence our units of work.

Intent, Implementation, Impact

It is our goal at Cuddington Community Primary School to deliver a high-quality Physical Education that gives children the foundations they need to understand the value of a healthy lifestyle and teamwork in all aspects of life. We place great emphasis on the appropriate knowledge, skills and subject-specific vocabulary to be successful and ready for the next stage of their education and into adult life.

Cuddington Community Primary School uses a high-quality curriculum from PE Hub and the addition of highly trained sports coaches from Premier Education and have developed a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs of our children.
